The year is 1996. Four years until the new millennium. A countdown to the unknown. High school, too, is a countdown to the unknown. With EVERYTHING SUCKS! we (myself and co-creator Michael Mohan) wanted to capture the innocent uncertainties of finding yourself during the dog days of analogue. Our single season coming-of-age story found a home at Netflix and premiered in February of 2018, quickly generating a cult-like following for it’s gentle but grounded exploration of important themes including mental illness, abandonment, and discovering your sexual identity.
