Ben York Jones first appeared on the indie film scene, on-screen, in the lo-fi comedy DOUCHEBAG, which premiered in Dramatic Competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. The following year, he co-wrote and appeared in the romantic drama LIKE CRAZY starring Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence, which won the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and was released by Paramount Pictures to critical acclaim.
In 2013, Jones penned the tense family drama BREATHE IN starring Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, and Amy Ryan, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and opened the Edinburgh Festival that same year. It was released by Cohen Media and Curzon Home Cinema.
Jones’ foray into television materialized with the 90s-set coming of age Netflix Original Series EVERYTHING SUCKS! staring Peyton Kennedy, Jahi Winston, and Sydney Sweeney, which he co-created and executive produced. While developing EVERYTHING SUCKS! Jones simultaneously wrote and produced the millennial drama NEWNESS starring Nicholas Hoult, Laia Costa, and Danny Huston, which premiered at Sundance in 2017 and was subsequently acquired by Netflix.
In the fall of 2018, Jones traveled to Lithuania to join Her Excellency Dalia Grybauskaite, President of Lithuania for a command screening of the WWII coming-of-age drama ASHES IN THE SNOW, staring Bel Powley, Jonah Hauer-King, and Martin Wallstrom, a Lithuanian-set film for which Jones wrote the adapted screenplay. The film went on to become the highest grossing release of all time in Lithuania. In 2022, he served as co-writer and executive producer on the Netflix Original feature film HELLO, GOODBYE & EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN staring Jordan Fisher, Talia Ryder, and Ayo Edibiri, based on the novel of the same name.
Jones has written for Vice, IndieWire, TalkHouse, and other publications. He is also an occasional lecturer at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Tiffany and their two children Milo & Farah, and is repped by CAA and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
