LIKE CRAZY was always intended to be a film that existed in the moments between moments— where words fall short and feelings overwhelm our capacity to process them. This is where my co-writer / director Drake Doremus and I were in our respective lives when we wrote it. Without answers. Just feelings. Knowing that we wanted an improvised feel, we wrote a dense 50 page “scriptment” which read less like a traditional screenplay, and more like prose divided by scene headings. Each scene was crafted in such a way that the subtext of every moment (and often backstory) found its way onto the page, but specific dialogue was only ever suggested. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival picking up both a Special Jury Prize for breakout star Felicity Jones, and the top prize given at Sundance: The US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature. Currently available on HBO Max.
